Sunday Apr 22/12 update
Today I will be uploading a lot of videos and sticking close
to home for a day of rest while Bella is off to play bridge.
We are again experiencing Internet droppages so I have sent
a request to Etapa for a service call tomorrow afternoon. This is very tiresome and time-consuming (It
has taken 7 hours to upload the enclosed videos).
Last night I decided to forego the Chinese food supper, with
Bella’s consent, and went back to catch the national dance competition at the
Coliseo Jefferson Perez. It was supposed
to start at 4pm and I knew Jim was supposed to be there, because a lady friend
had asked him to come watch her daughter compete. I called my little language buddy Juan and he
agreed to meet me there at 6pm. Jim told
us the competition started on Ecuador
time so we didn’t miss much. On the way
in I had a couple of kabobs from a street vendor and they were so good. I followed that up with a plate of salchipapas
which is french fries and a deep fried wiener.
Jim’s friend, Martha, had lived in the US for many years as well as Italy and spoke excellent
English. Her daughter apparently won her
group as well but I left at 10:30 as this was going to last until the wee hours
at the rate it was going.
I took 48 videos of different competitions and
demonstrations, and even a cheer team. I
had to unfortunately whittle this number down to a manageable 29 for
uploading. I know there are a lot of
videos, but they are worth watching as these folks are very talented. The
videos of the Special children are very uplifting and touching. The
performers compete in a variety of Latin dances, from waltz and jive to tango
and paso doble, many of the same dances as on DWTS. See

This was like watching DWTS but without the lousy
stars. Some of these elegant dancers
were such a pleasure to watch and it was so tempting to grab a partner and join
them. It looked like so much fun. There were also a couple of dances with
Special Needs children that were truly “special”.
On arriving home after the dancing Bella said she had talked
to her brother and learned that her mother is in bad shape with pneumonia,
emphysema and another tragic lung disease.
The poor lady has been coughing so much over the last 2 years that she
has probably damaged her heart in the process too. She is presently in hospital and too weak to
get out of bed. This is being a very bad
year for losing friends and family so please keep Lillian in your prayers too.
Enjoy the pic and videos.
That was today’s excitement. Hugs
to all.
